Hiccup #1

Got a call this afternoon from the PM, Hiccup #1. Ran into a excavation delay on todays job so that job will run over into Thursday. Our dig has been moved back a day to Friday. They may get out to our site tomorrow later in the day, if so they plan to start the digging for the utilities. Ok, no biggie lets get it!

Got the Call

Well we got the call from our PM earlier today. Things will be kicking off on our job site beginning Thursday. Dig on Thursday w/ any extra digging needed done on Friday, Pour the Footer on Monday, set and cure time for the footer, foundation wall pour, set and cure time for foundation walls & Delivery of the Building Materials set for the middle of the second week in December. It's getting real now...

Update

Well, our time has finally come.Tomorrow is the official first work day of our start week. Me and the Misses were a little bored at home so while out picking up our youngest from her holiday slumber weekend with grandma. We decided to stop through the job site and get a look at the area just prior to start. The pm told us during the Pre Construction meeting that they would need to bring in some soil to help get everything on grade. So I see that they have done just that. Here are some pictures of all of the stockpiled soil.

Me and the Misses, intend to make frequent visits to the job site to stay well on top of all that is going on. LETS GET IT!!!

Inspector Selection

I don't know how many people are using an inspector while building but we decided to get one. This morning we met with an inspector we found online (and believe me we researched) and chose to go with him. At first it was just  phone calls and emails but today it was face to face. We definitely didn't want to go with someone we haven't met in person. He seemed very knowledgeable and had already talked to our PM about a few issues. He sent us a contract via email a few weeks ago for us to go over and decide what inspections we preferred. We looked at them and talked to him today and chose to go with all of his inspections. It may cost a little bit of money but we like to have some peace of mind. Will the build be perfect? No. Nothing in life is and yes the house may have some issues later on but to us peace of mind in the beginning is important. -Tamica

Almost Time to Build!

Well, it's been just under a month since my last posting and things are still moving along steadily. We had our pre construction meeting on November 7th. We sat down with our sales rep and pm and went over all of the plans as well as a check list and I got to chew the construction fat with Zack the pm. During the pre construction meeting they gave us a construction start week of the week of November 28th. Me and the Misses hadn't been out to the site in a week or two so we decided to make a run out there yesterday to see if they had done anything to the site. I figured that they hadn't done anything but the misses said that she was sure they had at least started to move in some dirt or making some preparations.

Good thing I didn't suggest a wager on this one. 

As you can see they have cut the curb for the driveway and using a dozer, end loader or skid steer they have cut in a rough driveway and put in some stone.  The driveway is going to be 16' wide with a 20' wide entry apron. In the first pic you can see the mark painted on the drain, that is the left side mark for the curb cut. The pm has said that he has a few different ideas for how he is going to deal with the issue that the drain presents for the driveway. Here is a pic showing the area prior to the curb cut and the clearing of the drive area.

We stopped through the site a couple of days prior to our pre construction meeting just to see what was up and we noticed that they had had the surveyors out and they had plotted and staked out the job site. Here are a couple of pics of that.
